For a family of eight, the monthly limit rises to $9,025, or $108,300 per year.

For every extra person in your household, the income cap increases by $917 per person each month, or $11,000 annually.

Applicants must also live in a residential property with individually metered utilities—commercial, industrial, or shared residential utility setups do not qualify.

And before your application is reviewed, you’ll need to show proof of income and confirm that you’ve already applied for any other federally funded energy assistance programs available to you.

If your utility service is at risk of being shut off and the $200 grant isn’t enough to stop the disconnection, your application may not be approved. In that case, you’ll receive a notice explaining the denial and outlining any additional payment needed to move forward with assistance.
