That’s awesome! Do you have any fun or crazy stories from cruising around in that car? I bet there are some good memories attached to it! If it's okay with you, we'd love to feature this in the newsletter!

Lots and lots of fun/crazy stories. But one of the oddest was when the car was under a year old. It had a manual shift on the column (I couldn't afford the convertible AND automatic shift so of course the convertible won). As I was waiting on a hill for a light to turn green I heard a clanking sound and the car wouldn't start up in first gear. Luckily my boyfriend was working at a garage nearby so I left the car there and walked over to tell him. He discovered that the gear shift mechanism had fallen out. He gathered all the parts in a coffee can and told me to return them to the dealer the next day. Luckily I had second gear so I drove home all the way in second. Also lucky that Long Island NY was still fairly rural at that time, so the car and I made it home in one piece. I wouldn't want to try that today!

Wow, what a wild story! I don't know much about cars, but that sounds like one crazy ride—it must have been nerve-wracking. I'm glad your boyfriend was there to help when the gear shift mechanism fell out. It's hard to imagine something like that happening, but at least you got a memorable story out of it! Thanks for sharing such a fun (and slightly crazy) memory!

Mine is not such a cool story. When I turned 16, my brother gave me a well worn out 1963 Chevy Impala convertible. The convertible top did not come up every time I wanted it up. I couldn’t afford to replace it so I had to pretend I was fine driving it around in the rain. I tried to make it look like I did that on purpose. It is hard to look like a cool teen when you’re soaking wet! I couldn’t carry a spare tire bc the trunk floor was rusted out. Eventually I made the repairs and enjoyed a great ride, that is until I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. We couldn’t have a vehicle in Basic training or in my technical training. By then my brother sold my baby! I was majorly depressed about it for a very long time!

Thank you for your service in the Air Force! That's pretty cool driving around in the rain with the top down. As a teenager anyway. I understand how losing that car was traumatic. I still would love to have that '65 Tempest.

Thanks! I would love for both of us to have our old cars back! I would be ‘too cool for school’ showing off my best and favorite ride

If I couldn’t have it, I would truly love to have my ’71 VW Super Beetle, painted a butter yellow. During season I would pack my play clothes and my fishing gear from the front trunk and head to the lake as soon as I got off work. By the time my husband came home from work I had the Walleye fish filleted and ready for him to put on the grill. I loved my love bug so very much. It was good on the snowy highways to and from work. Yummy in my tummy 🐟😎🥰
