Are you eligible for $2,500 in free cash—and an instant $1,000 bonus? Millions of American families could cash in under new bill!

If you’ve been feeling the pinch at the grocery store or watching your retirement savings with a wary eye, you’re not alone.

But there’s a glimmer of good news on the horizon for millions of American families.

A new bill making its way through Congress could mean a hefty cash infusion: up to $2,500 per child, plus a $1,000 bonus for newborns. Let’s break down what’s on the table, who qualifies, and what it could mean for you and your loved ones.

A Bigger Child Tax Credit: What’s Changing?
For years, the Child Tax Credit (CTC) has been a lifeline for working families, offering up to $2,000 per qualifying child. But under the proposed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, that amount could jump to $2,500 for the 2024 tax year—a $500 increase per child. That’s not pocket change, especially for families juggling rising costs.

To qualify, you’ll need to claim a dependent under 17 on your tax return, and meet other IRS criteria (think: relationship to the child, residency, and income limits).

If you’re already familiar with the CTC, the process won’t change much—just a bigger payout if the bill passes.

The $1,000 “Trump Account” Bonus for Newborns
But wait, there’s more! The bill also proposes a $1,000 “Trump Account” bonus for every American baby born during a potential second Trump term.

Originally dubbed “MAGA Accounts” (Money Accounts for Growth and Advancement), these accounts are designed to give newborns a financial head start—no stock market savvy required.

Here’s how it would work:
- If parents don’t open a Trump Account by the time they file their first tax return claiming the child, the Treasury Department will do it for them.
- The child must be a US citizen with a Social Security Number, and parents must prove work eligibility.
- Parents can contribute up to $5,000 a year (tax-exempt!) until the child turns 18.
- The child can’t touch the money until age 18, and gets full access at 30.

Senator Ted Cruz calls it “transformative,” arguing it gives every American a stake in the country’s economic future—even those who’ve never owned stocks or bonds.

What’s the Catch?
As with any government program, there are a few caveats:
- The expanded CTC and Trump Account bonuses are tied to the current political climate. If the administration changes or the bill isn’t renewed after 2028, these benefits could disappear.
- The Trump Account is only for babies born during the specified term, so if you’re a grandparent hoping to open one for your 10-year-old grandchild, you’re out of luck.
- The CTC increase is not automatic yet—it’s passed the House, but still needs Senate approval.

Expert Opinions: A Good Start, But Not the Whole Solution
Financial experts are cautiously optimistic. Zach Buchwald, CEO of Russell Investments, says the Trump Account is a “step in the right direction,” but argues that true financial security requires more than a starter fund.

He’d like to see long-term solutions that help Americans build real wealth—think retirement savings, not just a one-time bonus.

And while a $2,500 credit per child is a welcome boost, it won’t solve every family’s financial woes. Rising inflation, healthcare costs, and housing prices are still big hurdles for many.

You almost did it.

You gave Trump credit, then immediately followed it with a negative that you failed to mention would be the democrats fault!

None of those will benefit me. I am 79. All children are adults. A boost in social security would be a benefit.
My 2 sons are adults, I’m 80 & need an increase in my monthly SS income, which is lower than $1900. a month… SS is my only Source of income…. HELP !!!
