"Royal Game of India"

This board game sparked plenty of family rivalries and belly laughs around the kitchen table. You might remember the satisfying clack of wooden pawns, the suspense of rolling doubles, and the drama of getting sent back to start.

With its bright colors and simple strategy, Parcheesi brought out the playful (and sometimes competitive!) side of the whole family. Whether you followed house rules or played by the book, it was always a race to “Home.”

My brothers and I played games together, at least we did when we weren’t fighting about something stupid. We played Monopoly, before they had a kids version. We played Sorry and Parcheesi, Chinese Marbles, but only when we were visiting our grandparents. We didn’t have it at home. We played Life when it only simple board game. Scrabble sometimes but it dragged when our younger brother played too. A big favorite was when Mousetrap came out. We could only play when our dad wasn’t home. He thought it caused too much noise. Go figure that 3 kids laughed while building our mousetrap and letting the marble go through its course! Oh well, such was fun sometimes in the 50’s and 60’s! Oops, sorry for the rant. I get carried away now and again 🥴
Not the same but we played endless games of Checkers! As a married adult we had much of his family living with us. I needlepointed an elaborate Checker Board with a snazzy border to enter in a frame to the State Fair. It won 1st place in the self designed category. With the matte glass frame we could play on it without messing up the needlework. This trip down memory lane was a nice flashback for me 😎
