Quote of the Day 07.06.2025

“It’s not how old you are, but how you are old.” – Jules Renard
Isn’t that a beauty? It’s a gentle reminder that age isn’t just about the number—it’s about attitude, spirit, and the way we choose to live every day. Whether you're dancing in the kitchen, sharing stories with the grandkids, or just enjoying your morning coffee in peace, how you live is what really counts.

What does “how you are old” look like in your life? Let’s hear your take in the comments!

Cheers!

I have no problem being old. It is what it is and until i longer can, i am always going to be in control of my life. I enjoy each day to the fullest, find new things to do and see. I earned each wrinkle so no botox for me and my gray hairs i tinge with purple. I volunteer alot. The only thing that really bugs me is how some Drs treat you. They are so condensating, alot give you no respect and treat you like you're old so why should we bother. But i love life and all it has to offer.

I like what you said. I earned my gray hair and wrinkles the pure and honest way. Life! As for how doctors treat seniors, I don’t have the same experience. My husband and I are veterans and are treated in the VA Hospital and their clinics out in the community. They have been more than generous with their time. We’re assigned a whole list of professionals. A pharmacist , social worker, nutritionist, nurse, primary care physician etc. We are blessed to be vets! 🇺🇸

My husband and I know how we’re old! We were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning 5 years ago. My husband had to relearn how to use utensils. Our mobility issues leave us pretty much at home. The only time we’re out is to be transported in a medical van. This is exactly how we’re old! Getting older is not for punks! 🥴

Thank you so much for sharing that @Arkie98 ! Your attitude is so empowering — embracing every wrinkle and finding joy in each day is such a beautiful way to live. I love that you tint your grey hair with purple — that’s such a fun and bold touch! Volunteering and staying active in life on your own terms is exactly what “how you are old” is all about. I’m really sorry to hear about your experience with some doctors, though — that kind of dismissive attitude is frustrating and unfair. Have you found any healthcare providers who do treat you with the respect you deserve?

Thank you so much for sharing that @Gayle B. — and I love what you said about earning your grey hair and wrinkles “the pure and honest way.” That’s such a powerful way to put it — through life, with all its ups and downs. It’s heartening to hear that you and your husband have had such positive experiences with the VA. It really sounds like they’re looking after you both with care and respect. That kind of support system can make all the difference. What kind of things do you and your husband enjoy doing these days now that you're both well looked after?

Thank you again for sharing more of your story @Gayle B. — it really shows the incredible strength you and your husband have. What you both went through with the carbon monoxide poisoning sounds absolutely life-altering, and yet your honesty and humor say so much about your spirit. I’m glad to know from your earlier comment that the VA has been providing such good care — it sounds like having that strong support system in place has made a big difference. Are there any small routines, hobbies, or even moments during the day that bring you both a bit of joy or comfort at home?
