It was for keeping contacts on a card index file. It went around a spindle with phone numbers and addresses in alphabetical order. It had replaceable cars to keep it current with a plastic lid to close it up and keep my desktop orderly. I haven’t given myself permission to throw it away yet.
 
It was a card holder for contacts, phone numbers, addresses. Usually it was a circular thing that sat on your desk. Alphabetical order. Just don‘t drop it. All contacts were in there. Some color coded.
