A husband and wife had been married for more than 60 years. They had shared everything—except for one mystery. On the top shelf of the wife’s closet sat an old shoe box. From the beginning, she had told her husband never to open it or ask about it, and he had honored her wish.

The husband, puzzled, asked, “What does this mean?”

His wife smiled softly and explained, “Before we married, my grandmother told me the secret to a happy marriage. She said that if I ever got angry with you, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll instead.”

The husband was so touched he nearly cried. In all their years together, there were only two dolls in the box—she had only been angry with him twice! His heart swelled with pride.

“And what about all this money?” he asked.

“Oh, that?” she said with a twinkle in her eye. “That’s what I made selling all the other dolls.”
