Vow Of Silence
A man joins a monastery and takes a vow of silence—he’s only allowed to speak two words every seven years.
After the first seven years, the monks ask what he’d like to say.
“Cold floors,” he replies. They nod and send him on his way.
Seven years later, he’s brought in again. “Bad food,” he says. They nod once more.
After another seven years, he returns and says, “I quit.”
The head monk looks at him and replies, “That doesn’t surprise us—you’ve done nothing but complain since you got here.”
