The world of music and celebrity has always had its share of drama, but few stories have rocked the industry quite like the explosive trial testimony of Cassie Ventura against Sean “Diddy” Combs.

For many who remember Diddy’s rise to fame and Cassie’s chart-topping hits, the details emerging from this high-profile court case are both shocking and heartbreaking.

At The GrayVine, we believe it’s important to look beyond the headlines and understand the deeper issues at play—especially when it comes to power, abuse, and the courage it takes to speak out. Let’s break down what happened in court, what it means, and why this case is making waves far beyond the world of hip-hop.

A Decade of Darkness: Cassie’s Devastating Testimony
Cassie Ventura, now 38, took the stand in a New York courtroom to deliver testimony that left the room stunned.

Her account painted a picture of a 10-year relationship with Diddy that was marred by degrading sexual encounters with male prostitutes, brutal beatings, and blackmail.

According to Cassie, she met Diddy when she just 19 upon signing a contract with Bad Boy Records. She released her first and only album later in 2006.

A year later, their relationship blossomed into a romance which quickly spiraled into a nightmare—details laid bare over several days of harrowing testimony against the once-revered music executive.

Combs, 55, now stands trial in New York on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, which he vehemently denies. Ventura, then 38 and now eight-and-a-half months pregnant, recounted how she was manipulated into drug-fueled org**s lasting up to four days.

“Freak Offs,” Voyeurism, and Coercion
One of the most disturbing revelations was Diddy’s alleged obsession with orchestrating “freak offs”—the drug-fueled org**s involving Cassie and male escorts, which he would direct and watch.

Cassie described being plied with alcohol and drugs, then forced to perform humiliating acts, including being urinated on at Diddy’s request.

She testified that, “Within the first year of our relationship Sean proposed to me this idea, this sexual encounter that he called voyeurism where he’s watched me in sexual activity with a third party, specifically another man.”

She explained, “It entails the hiring of an escort and setting up this experience so that I could perform for Sean. It involved Sean being able to watch me with the other person and actually direct us on what we were doing sexually.”

Ventura described one of Combs’s most disturbing demands: “Sometimes he himself (Combs) or he would have the escort urinate on me… there was no conversation. It was a turn on for him, so it happened.”

When asked if she had ever wanted that, she responded with a firm “no,” calling the ordeal “humiliating… It was disgusting, it was too much, overwhelming.” She added that during these assaults she was choked and “laid on the floor in a position I couldn’t easily get out of.”

Pressed on whether she could stop it, Ventura said she raised her hands, and Combs instructed the escort to cease: “Only thing I could do laying on the floor… too much urine in my mouth.”

When the prosecutor asked, “Did you want Sean to urinate on you?” she replied, “I didn’t want anybody to urinate on me. I was squeamish immediately and high and in the moment with this man, so that’s what happened.”

Throughout her testimony, Cassie insisted she never actively sought these “freak offs.” “I remember my stomach falling to my butt,” she recalled of her very first experience. “The nervousness and confusion in that moment. I had just turned 22… I was confused, nervous but also loved him very much and wanted to make him happy.”

Ventura outlined the typical progression of a freak off: beginning with oil and tactile stimulation, moving through o**l sex, and culminating in intercourse.

“First sex act, masturbating and looking at each other—I would be looking at the escort and they would be looking at me,” she said. “I would describe what I saw in detail. That is what turned (Combs) on… his fantasy.” She noted it was “awkward, sitting describing someone’s penis to another male,” but over time “it became normal.”

Sometimes Combs joined the act; other times he merely watched. “If I was having intercourse with an escort, Sean would walk up and have me give him o**l sex.”

On the question of whether escorts ej***lated, she answered, “Yes, usually when it was OK for them per Sean. But if they did then Sean and I would go into the next room and he’d want me to put the s*men on his body… usually on his chest, on his nipples.”

Ventura testified that if escorts ej***lated without Combs’s permission, he paid them less. On one occasion, she said, Combs “choreographed” her climbing into a pool of baby oil at a Beverly Hills hotel, fully dressed in a s*x-shop outfit and heels—something she “especially” did not want to do “in a hotel room,” but felt she couldn’t refuse.

These sessions, she said, became nearly weekly affairs, fueled by “Ecstasy and molly (MDMA)… We started to other drugs like cocaine later on.”

Physical and Psychological Abuse
The abuse, Cassie said, wasn’t just sexual.

“At certain times I knew it wasn’t even about me… the next thing I was getting hit in the face,” she testified. She described being struck for reasons as trivial as not smiling to his satisfaction. “Maybe I was a brat… he would let me know I need to fix my face or watch my mouth. Psychological was every day… someone constantly telling you who to be.”

One particularly harrowing incident occurred at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles in 2016, where Cassie was left with a black eye and a busted lip.

Ventura also recounted the 2016 assault at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, captured on surveillance video. “I got hit by Sean and had a black eye… I just knew I had to get out,” she said. She fled toward the elevators, only to be thrown to the ground again. “It was really fast. Sean grabbed me by the back of my neck and threw me to the ground.”

On day two, she detailed Combs hurling a vase at her. “There was a vase with flowers in it… I didn’t get hit. I remember it hitting the wall. He was yelling at me and threw it at me.”

After her friend called the police, Combs sent her frantic messages: “If you don’t pick up you’ll never hear my voice again,” he threatened. Terrified, she answered only a few questions before refusing to identify him.

Ventura explained she eventually stopped resisting during beatings, fearing it would worsen the violence: “I learned it could escalate the fight more and make it worse for myself… Sometimes it would slow him down… but other times it’d make him more violent.”

She also testified about a deep gash after Combs attacked her upon finding her asleep on a sofa. He forced her to be taken—by his security detail—to a plastic surgeon’s office for stitches.

Ventura recalled another freak off in the Hamptons involving an escort nicknamed Dave, during which she “blacked out” on GHB and awoke naked in the shower while Combs and Dave “were freaking out outside the bath.”

Combs allegedly enlisted her to recruit escorts: “Based on who Sean is, I didn’t want to put him in that position… It was expected of me.”

Text messages showed him warning against ketamine use: “We have to have a proper FO WITHOUT NO K. I need to get it out of my head. I HATE K!!!” She preferred K herself because it was dissociative, letting her disconnect from the moment.

She testified she resisted intimate acts like kissing—“I was really against kissing, I felt it was too intimate but still happened anyway”—and described Combs derailing plans for her 29th birthday at Blind Dragon to force her into another freak off.

Blackmail and Control
Cassie also testified that Diddy used videos of the “freak offs” to blackmail her, threatening to release them if she didn’t comply with his demands. She described feeling trapped, terrified for her career, her family, and her reputation.

Combs then used video recordings of these orgies to blackmail her: “I’m going to put out two embarrassing videos of you… I’m going to release them and embarrass you, put your career in jeopardy,” he warned. “I feared for my career. I feared for my family… No one should do that to anyone.”

Ventura detailed an incident after Cannes, when he allegedly kicked her off a yacht, seized her passport, and later played freak off videos to her on a flight back to New York. “I felt trapped,” she said, “How do you get out of this situation…?”

The Toll on Body and Mind
The physical consequences of the abuse were severe. Cassie described these in detail, “I had a lot of stomach issues… frequent UTIs… sores on my tongue from the substances and just friction in my mouth.” She felt “so tired, achy, really dehydrated… Just empty.”

Ventura recounted a night at an LA club that ended with her hiding for a week: after being called a “sl**” and drunkenly punching Combs, she was beaten relentlessly in his Escalade. “Sean was stomping on [my face] with his foot… I was being… really badly beaten… I took off running… Security caught up with me. I finally saw my face, …didn’t look life myself at all.”

She then fled to a London hotel to recover, acutely aware of his threats and access to firearms.

Further violent episodes followed—a brutal party at Prince’s house in 2013. “He beat me up, he was throwing luggage at me, calling me all kinds of names.”

He also said that she became violent following his discovery of her dating rapper Scott Mescudi, better known as “Kid Cudi.” Ventura testified, “I remember him pulling a wine bottle opener between his fingers and lunging at me.”

At an after-party at Combs’s home in 2015, she recounted, “I was talking to a manager and Sean tapped me and told me to come to the next room and he beat me up in that room. He punched me, kicked me.”

Ventura claimed that Diddy told her to “put on more makeup” to hide the injuries from his son.

She even opened up about an alleged rape in 2018 after their relationship ended. She testified, “Laughing, all the things that were happening before, were not there… He continued and finished, he ej***lated inside of me. He got up and he left.”

The trauma pushed her to suicidal thoughts. “I didn’t want to be alive any more at that point,” she said, recalling flashbacks during a video shoot.

She attempted to end her life, recounting, “I went home and it was super super late, my kids were asleep and I remember telling him [her husband] you can do this without me you don’t need me anymore.”

“I couldn’t take the pain I was in any more, so I tried to walk out the front door into traffic and my husband would not let me,” she cried.

Finally, Ventura disclosed she had settled a civil suit with Combs for $20 million within 24 hours last year—but chose to testify now because, “I can’t carry this anymore… What’s right is right, what’s wrong is wrong. I’m here to do the right thing.”
