30,000 pounds of beef-derived product recalled—what you need to know

Attention, cooks and food lovers—a major recall is making waves. Over 30,000 pounds of a popular kitchen staple have been pulled from shelves.

Is your go-to ingredient on the list?

The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced an active recall of approximately 33,899 pounds of beef tallow products.

The reason? These products were not properly inspected before being distributed to consumers.

This oversight raises concerns about the safety and quality of the beef tallow, which is often used for cooking and flavoring foods.

The products in question are branded under the name Lady May Tallow and are marketed with labels such as “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL” or “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef Original TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL.”

They come in various sizes and container types, including:
  • 2-pound plastic tubs
  • 7.8- to 8-pound (or 1-gallon) plastic tubs
  • 16-pound plastic tubs
  • 24-fluid ounce glass jars

The recall is extensive, affecting wholesale and retail locations nationwide.

The lack of proper inspection is particularly concerning because Lady May Tallow does not possess a federal grant of inspection, which is a standard requirement for food producers.

Without this grant, the safety of the product for human consumption is questionable, despite the presence of a nutrition label on the packaging.
