We all know the routine—red on top, green on the bottom. But there’s one American neighborhood where things flipped, and for a very spirited reason.

Back in the 1920s, in Syracuse, New York, the Irish community of Tipperary Hill was not thrilled to see what they called “British red” hanging above “Irish green”. They let city officials know—loudly—by repeatedly knocking out the light. Eventually, the city gave in and switched the order.

To this day, the light at “Tipp Hill” shows green on top and red on the bottom, standing proud as a little piece of Irish-American history and a quirky landmark for anyone driving through.

Ever stumbled upon a fact so strange it sounds made up? Let’s hear it here!
