The Karma Sauce Company LLC, in collaboration with the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), has issued a recall for select batches of Hot Ones-branded Los Calientes Hot Sauces by Heatonist.

This recall comes after the discovery of potential foreign object contamination—specifically, plastic pieces found in the product.

The recall, which was initially set in motion on February 14, 2025, has been classified as a Class II recall by the FDA.

This classification is reserved for products that may cause temporary or reversible health consequences.

In other words, while the risk is not immediate or life-threatening, it's still a serious concern that requires prompt action.

The affected hot sauces include two varieties: Los Calientes Rojo and Los Calientes Verde.

These sauces have been distributed across four states: Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, and Ohio.

The recall encompasses various sizes, from the 5-gallon buckets to 1-gallon jugs and the more commonly purchased 5-ounce bottles.

If you're a fan of these spicy condiments, it's crucial to check your bottles for the following details to determine if they're part of the recall.

Each product has specific UPC codes and best-by dates that you can find on the label. These details are essential for identifying the potentially contaminated batches:

Hot Ones Los Calientes Verde Hot Sauce:

  • 5-Gallon Bucket: UPC: 8-51444-00803-5; Best-By Date: Feb. 7, 2028
  • 1-Gallon Jug: UPC: 8-51444-00803-5; Best-By Dates: Feb. 3, 2028; Feb. 4, 2028; and Feb. 7, 2028

No other Hot Ones Los Calientes hot sauces are impacted by this recall.

For most consumers, the 5-ounce bottles are the primary concern, as the larger sizes are typically used by restaurants or for the production of the Hot Ones YouTube show.

If you find that you have a recalled bottle, the FDA advises not to consume the product. Instead, you should dispose of it safely or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

For those who have bought the 5-ounce bottles through Heatonist, the online retail partner for Hot Ones, you can contact the brand directly at [email protected].

They will guide you through the refund process or answer any questions you might have regarding the recall.
