A popular mac and cheese just got recalled—check your pantry

If you’ve picked up a box of plant-based mac and cheese recently, you may want to take a second look at your pantry.

Gooder Foods Inc. has announced a recall of two popular Goodles mac and cheese varieties.

Though these items were marketed as vegan, hidden ingredients have led to multiple allergic reactions and raised concerns for those with food sensitivities.

The recalled products were sold nationwide, both in stores and online, and may still be sitting in homes across the country.

Here’s everything you need to know to stay safe and avoid a dangerous dinner.

What products are affected?

On September 10, the FDA shared a recall notice issued by Gooder Foods Inc.

The company is recalling two boxed mac and cheese flavors due to the possible presence of undeclared milk or cashew allergens:

  • Goodles Vegan Is Believin’ Plant-Based White Cheddar (may contain milk)
  • Goodles Here Comes Truffle Truffle-Flavored Pasta (may contain cashews)

The recall follows reports of eight allergic reactions, with six linked to the truffle flavor and two tied to the vegan cheddar.

These ingredients are not listed on the packaging, posing a serious risk for those with food allergies.

Which lot codes should you check?

The affected Goodles mac and cheese boxes were produced between April 7 and April 15, 2025, and distributed nationally from April 29 to August 5.

Look for these lot codes printed just under the best-by date on the top of each box:

  • Vegan Is Believin’: 09725N, 09825N, 09925N, 10025N, 10125N
  • Here Comes Truffle: 10125N, 10425N, 10525N

If you have one of these boxes at home, it’s best to stop using it immediately.

Why this recall matters

Boxed mac and cheese is a quick, comforting favorite—but for people with allergies, it's also a potential source of harm.

Products that are labeled vegan are often assumed to be free of milk, dairy, or animal-derived ingredients.

In this case, that assumption could be dangerous.

Undeclared allergens are one of the top reasons for food recalls in the US.

For anyone allergic to milk or nuts, even trace amounts can trigger severe reactions like swelling, breathing difficulties, or anaphylaxis.

What to do if you bought these products

If you purchased any of the recalled boxes, do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund.

For additional help, you can contact Gooder Foods’ customer service at 1-888-610-2341.

If anyone in your household has already consumed the product and is experiencing symptoms—such as hives, swelling, shortness of breath, or digestive upset—seek medical attention right away.

Tips to stay safe during food recalls

Keeping up with food recalls can feel overwhelming, but these simple steps can help protect your health:

  1. Sign up for recall alerts from the FDA or your local grocery store. Many offer text or email notifications.
  2. Check your pantry regularly, especially if someone in your household has food allergies or dietary restrictions.
  3. Always read labels carefully, even if it’s a brand you trust or have bought before.
  4. Speak up when something goes wrong. If you’ve been affected by a recall, let the company know—consumer feedback can improve safety protocols.

How common are food recalls?

Food recalls are more frequent than many people realize.

According to the FDA, undeclared allergens are among the leading causes of recalls in the US.

As food production becomes more automated and supply chains grow more complex, the chance of cross-contamination also rises.

Older adults may be especially at risk during these situations—whether due to personal allergies, caring for grandchildren, or simply trusting certain labels.

This is a reminder that even trendy new foods can have serious old-school problems.
