A surprising recall is affecting a calming favorite

For many people, sipping tea is a relaxing part of the evening routine.

It’s a simple comfort—something warm and calming before bed.

But one popular brand’s recent recall might make you take a closer look at what’s in your cup.

Herbalife Nutrition’s Relaxation Tea, known for its soothing herbal blend, is now under recall due to a manufacturing issue.

If you’ve purchased this tea recently, here’s what you need to know.

Nearly 6,000 units recalled across three countries

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that nearly 6,000 canisters of Herbalife’s Relaxation Tea are being recalled.

The recall, initiated by Herbalife International of America, affects exactly 5,888 units distributed via online sales in the US, Mexico, and Ecuador.

According to the FDA, the issue involves an “incorrect ingredient” supplied and used during the manufacturing process.

While officials haven’t named the ingredient or provided further health risk details, the recall is still listed as “ongoing.”

That means more information may follow as the investigation continues.

Product details to look out for

The affected product is the Herbalife Nutrition Relaxation Tea, which is sold in 1.69-ounce (48g) canisters, each containing about 60 servings.

The recalled lot includes:

  • UPC: L044KUS0A-00
  • Lot number: D925507J02
  • Expiration date: April 11, 2027

The tea is advertised as a caffeine-free blend containing lemon balm, passionflower, lavender, chamomile, stevia, peppermint, and spearmint—all ingredients that support relaxation and sleep.

However, due to the ingredient error, consumers are urged not to use products from the recalled lot.

What to do if you have the tea

If your canister matches the recalled product information, stop using it immediately.

Herbalife has not yet released public instructions on returns or refunds, but consumers are encouraged to reach out directly to the company for next steps.

As of now, the FDA has not assigned a classification to indicate the level of risk this recall poses.

Typically, recalls are categorized as Class I, II, or III based on severity, but that designation is still pending.

A history of scrutiny

This isn’t the first time Herbalife has come under regulatory pressure.

In 2016, the company agreed to pay $200 million and restructure its US business operations following a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) complaint.

The FTC alleged Herbalife misled people into believing they could earn substantial income by selling its products.

The company operates as a multi-level marketing business, where independent sellers purchase and resell Herbalife items for profit.

Staying safe with herbal tea

While herbal teas are generally safe, this situation highlights the importance of staying informed about product recalls.

Consumers are encouraged to regularly check recall databases—especially for food, supplements, and personal wellness products.

For those who enjoy herbal teas to relax or sleep, other safe and widely available ingredients include chamomile, lemon balm, and valerian root.

Trusted brands with transparent labeling and a history of compliance may offer greater peace of mind.
