Ingredients:
4 medium apples
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup oats, uncooked
1/2 cup margarine, 1 stick (or butter)
4 sprays of cooking spray

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, brown sugar, and oats in a mixing bowl, stirring until well blended.
  3. Cut in margarine or butter with two table knives until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
  4. Lightly grease a baking dish with cooking spray.
  5. Press half of the crumb mixture into the greased baking dish.
  6. Core and slice apples, then layer them evenly over the crumb mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before slicing into squares.
Note:
For convenience, you can use 16 ounces of applesauce or canned apples instead of fresh apples. Both peeled and unpeeled apples work well in this recipe.
