Heads up: Walmart issues urgent recall, urges shoppers to dispose of items

We know a trip to Walmart is practically a national pastime—whether you’re grabbing a cozy electric blanket or a quick pasta dinner for the family.

But what happens when the everyday products we rely on suddenly pose serious health or safety risks to our families?

This week, two popular items sold at Walmart locations across the country have been recalled on a nationwide scale due to safety concerns.

1. MaxKare Electric Blankets: Overheating Danger

If you purchased a MaxKare Electric Blanket from Walmart between June 2021 and November 2024, it’s time to check your linen closet.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for approximately 8,560 units.

There have been 34 reports of overheating, including two fires and three burn injuries. Affected models include:
  • HB18A-7284-1
  • HB18A-8490-2
  • HB18A-6284-1

Available in twin, full, and queen sizes, the blankets came in brown or gray and were manufactured by Shenzhen Yumo Commerce and Trade Corporation.

Discontinue use of the blanket right away to avoid any potential safety risks or further issues. Reach out to Yumo's customer service team for detailed instructions on how to properly dispose of the product in accordance with their guidelines.

Once you've completed the necessary steps, you can request either a full refund or a replacement, depending on your preference and the company’s policy.

2. FreshRealm Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo: Listeria Outbreak

Busy schedule? Ready-to-eat meals might seem like a lifesaver—but not this time.

Several FreshRealm Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo products sold at Walmart are being recalled due to a Listeria outbreak.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is currently investigating.

So far, 17 illnesses, 3 deaths, and 1 fetal loss in 13 states have been linked to this outbreak.

Affected products include:
  • MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese (32.8oz, best by: 6/27/25, EST. P-50784)
  • MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese (12.3oz, best buy: 6/26/25, EST. P-47770)
  • HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese (12.05 oz, Best By: 6/19/25, EST. P-47718)

Do not consume the product under any circumstances, as it may pose a risk to your health.

Safely dispose of it according to local guidelines, or return it to your nearest Walmart store for a full refund.

Thoroughly clean your refrigerator and any surfaces that may have come into contact with the product to prevent the risk of cross-contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that causes listeriosis, a potentially severe illness. It’s especially dangerous for:
  • Pregnant women (can cause miscarriage or stillbirth)
  • Older adults
  • Newborns
  • People with weakened immune systems

The FSIS has emphasized the serious health risks associated with listeriosis, including symptoms like fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal distress.

In vulnerable populations—such as pregnant women, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems—the infection can lead to severe or even fatal complications.

The illness is treatable with antibiotics, but early detection and prevention are key.

At this time, both recalls remain active as authorities continue to monitor the situation and investigate further.
