Are you eligible for a $3,850 payout in the latest car settlement? November deadline approaching!

If you’ve ever driven a certain popular sedan or SUV and suddenly faced an expensive repair under the hood, there’s some news worth checking out.

A major settlement could soon send checks to thousands of drivers who had to pay out of pocket for an issue tied to their car’s turbocharger.

The amount? Up to $3,850—but only for those who file before the November 29, 2025 deadline.

Here’s what this new payout is about, who can qualify, and how to make sure you don’t miss your chance to claim it.

What’s This Settlement All About?

Volkswagen and its luxury sibling Audi have agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement (rumored to be around $1.95 million) after being accused of installing defective turbochargers in a range of their vehicles.

While the companies haven’t admitted any wrongdoing, they’re offering compensation to drivers who paid out-of-pocket for repairs.

The heart of the issue? Certain turbochargers in VW and Audi models were allegedly prone to failure, leaving drivers with hefty repair bills.

Some owners, like plaintiff Julie Kimball, reported spending thousands—she paid $3,000 to fix her 2010 Audi A4’s turbocharger.

The lawsuit claims Volkswagen and Audi knew about the problem from pre-production testing, design analysis, and consumer complaints but failed to address it or warn customers.

Who Can Claim?

This settlement is open to both current and former owners and lessees of specific Volkswagen and Audi vehicles equipped with Generation 1, 2, or 3 EA888 engines.

If you purchased or leased one of the following models between 2008 and 2024, you could be eligible:

Volkswagen:

  • 2012–2014 Beetle
  • 2009–2012 CC
  • 2009–2012 Eos
  • 2008–2012 GTI
  • 2008–2014 Jetta
  • 2008–2010 Passat
  • 2009–2014 Tiguan

Audi:

  • 2008–2012 A3
  • 2009–2013 A4
  • 2009–2013 A5
  • 2012 A6
  • 2009–2012 TT
  • 2011–2012 Q5

How Much Can You Get?

If you paid for a turbocharger repair or replacement within 8.5 years or 85,000 miles of your car’s in-service date, you could receive a reimbursement of 40% to 50% of your repair costs—up to a maximum of $3,850 for repairs done at non-Volkswagen dealerships.

The exact amount depends on your vehicle’s engine generation and the specifics of your repair. For Generation 3 vehicles, there’s also a warranty extension: coverage is bumped up to 8.5 years or 85,000 miles. If the turbocharger failed due to corrosion, the warranty will cover 50% of the repair cost.

What Do You Need to File a Claim?

To get your share, you’ll need to provide proof that you paid for a qualifying turbocharger repair. That means:
  • A repair invoice showing your name, the vehicle’s make, model, and VIN, and details of the work performed.
  • If the repair wasn’t done at an authorized dealer, you’ll also need a signed declaration from the repair shop.
Be sure your documents are clear and complete—missing or incomplete paperwork could delay or disqualify your claim.
