Are your snacks safe? Shocking details you need to know from the latest FDA high-risk recall

It’s easy to overlook the fine print on a label when picking up familiar favorites at the store.

But a recent federal alert serves as a reminder that even trusted brands aren’t immune to safety lapses.

The FDA has just flagged a popular snack sold as a high-risk product, prompting a serious recall due to undeclared allergens and additives.

At The GrayVine, we’re unpacking what this means and how you can protect yourself and your household.

A Serious Safety Warning from the FDA

The product at the center of this recall is Las Ollas Botana Mix, sold in 2-pound bags by Houston-based Kedake.

The FDA has classified the recall as Class I—its highest alert level—indicating a real risk of serious health complications or even death for sensitive individuals.

What Went Wrong?

Following a routine inspection, the FDA found that the product contained undeclared sesame, soy, and wheat, along with artificial dyes including Yellow No. 5, Yellow No. 6, and Red No. 40.

None of these ingredients were listed on the label, creating a dangerous situation for those with allergies or sensitivities.

Affected products include item numbers #1516 and #1056, with UPC code 880342001855.

The recall involves 332 bags distributed only in Texas.

The issue was traced back to a labeling malfunction during production. Fortunately, no adverse reactions have been reported to date.

  • Class II (Moderate Risk): Temporary or medically reversible health effects are possible.
  • Class III (Least Serious): Product violates regulations but is unlikely to cause harm.
This recall falls into Class I, emphasizing the need for consumers to act swiftly.
