Ingredients:

3 medium firm, sweet apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, plus 1 tablespoon for apples
8 tablespoons (113g) unsalted butter
3/4 cup (98g) all-purpose flour
3/4 cup (84g) old-fashioned rolled oats
1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
Vanilla ice cream and homemade caramel sauce, optional for serving

Directions:
  1. Prep the Oven & Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly butter or spray a baking dish large enough to fit 6 apple halves with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the Apples: Cut each apple in half from stem to end. Use a spoon to scoop out the core, seeds, and stem.
  3. Arrange the Apples: Place the apple halves in the prepared baking dish with the flesh facing up.
  4. Add Flavor to Apples: Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon over the apples.
  5. Make the Topping: In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the flour, oats, remaining 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt. (You can mix it all directly in the pan for less cleanup!)
  6. Top the Apples: Divide the topping evenly between the apples, pressing it lightly onto the apples.
  7. Bake to Perfection: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, uncover and bake for another 20 to 30 minutes until the apples are soft and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of homemade caramel sauce, or simply enjoy them plain.
Additional tips:
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat in a warm oven or microwave.
  • Use gluten-free flour or oat flour in place of all-purpose flour, and ensure your oats are labeled gluten-free.
