It folded, clicked, and stretched farther than you thought it could. Before retractable tape measures took over, this clever tool was a must-have in garages, sewing rooms, and kitchen drawers alike. Its wooden segments snapped neatly into place with that unmistakable sound every handyman (or handywoman!) remembers. Do you remember using one?

It’s a folding carpenter’s ruler, a staple in toolboxes long before metal tape measures came along. Made of wood and brass, these rulers unfolded to stretch six feet or more, then folded back with a satisfying snap. Many of us remember seeing one in Dad’s workshop or tucked in a kitchen drawer for quick fixes. Did you or someone in your family keep one of these handy? Share your memories in the comments!

My dad had one and it was probably bought back in the 40 or 50's. lts the only ruler that l remember him using. l still have the ruler and the hammer that he used. He was killed in 1966 so l treasure everything that was his
