Big changes at NBC: What to know about the 2025 TV lineup

Each spring, TV networks decide which shows will return and which will end.

This year, NBC’s lineup update is drawing even more attention than usual—partly because the network is bringing back NBA games for the first time since 2002.

That means adjustments to primetime programming, and some long-running fan favorites are on the chopping block.

If you’re wondering which shows made it—and which ones didn’t—here’s a full look at NBC’s 2025–2026 television schedule.

NBC has confirmed it’s cutting back on scripted programming to make room for professional basketball.

The network’s new NBA deal has led to a reshuffling of its schedule, and several shows have been cancelled as a result.

While the return of sports is welcome news to basketball fans, the change has left some longtime viewers disappointed by the loss of popular comedies and dramas.

Canceled: five shows won’t be coming back

NBC officially cancelled the following five shows for the upcoming season:

1. Night Court

This reboot of the 1980s sitcom, starring Melissa Rauch, ran for three seasons. The final episode aired last week. While the show had a loyal following, it didn’t survive the latest round of cuts. Some fans hope another network or streaming service might pick it up.

2. Lopez vs Lopez

The family comedy starring George Lopez and his real-life daughter, Mayan Lopez, also wrapped after three seasons. It was known for blending real-life family dynamics with humor, earning praise for its representation and relatability.

3. Suits: LA

A spinoff of the USA Network hit Suits, this legal drama only lasted one season. Despite the original series’ popularity and its ties to stars like Meghan Markle, Suits: LA failed to find its footing.

4. Found

Starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Found followed a crisis management team helping to locate missing persons. The show lasted two seasons before NBC announced its cancellation.

5. The Irrational

Also ending after two seasons, The Irrational featured a behavioral science expert helping law enforcement solve complex cases. Though it had steady ratings, it didn’t make the cut.

Renewed: ten shows are set to return

It’s not all bad news—NBC renewed ten shows for the 2025–2026 season.

These include long-running franchises, new successes, and returning favorites:

  1. Chicago Fire (renewed for season 14)
  2. Chicago Med (season 11)
  3. Chicago P.D. (season 13)
All three shows in the popular Chicago franchise are coming back, continuing their dominance in primetime TV.
  4. Law & Order (season 25)
  5. Law & Order: SVU (season 27)
These two legal dramas remain among NBC’s most reliable hits.
  6. The Voice
The music competition show is returning with judges Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Niall Horan.
  7. The Hunting Party
A newcomer that made enough of an impression in its first season to earn a second.
  8. Brilliant Minds
Another freshman drama that stood out to NBC executives and viewers alike.
  9. Happy’s Place
  10. St. Denis Medical
Both comedies are returning for another season, giving viewers more light-hearted options in the network’s fall lineup.

How fans are reacting

As with any major schedule shakeup, fans have taken to social media to share their reactions.

Some are upset about the cancelled shows, particularly comedies that brought laughter and representation to weeknight television.

One fan wrote, “Canceling Suits: LA when it was getting great. Found was an excellent show, and Lopez vs Lopez—one of the few comedies that keeps us in stitches. What now, more cops and medical shows and some NBA games?”

Another viewer commented, “I'm just irritated that they're canceling one of my favorite shows to make room for the NBA. I get that the numbers make sense, but it's still frustrating.”

Others were more positive, focusing on the renewed shows.

“Still, I’m excited for the return of St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place, so that’s at least good,” one viewer said.
