Billionaire’s haunting final words stun crowd before sudden collapse

The atmosphere was electric, the crowd energized, the match in full swing.

But within seconds, the joy of sport gave way to alarm.

A prominent figure known for both business success and sporting passion had slumped in his saddle—leaving stunned silence in his wake.

His final words, whispered in distress, now echo far beyond the field.

The worlds of business, sport, and philanthropy are in mourning after the sudden and tragic death of billionaire entrepreneur Sunjay Kapur, who collapsed mid-match at the prestigious Queen’s Cup polo tournament in Windsor, UK. Just 53 years old, Kapur’s unexpected passing has left a void in boardrooms and polo fields alike, as tributes pour in from across the globe.

He died on June 12.

The day had all the markings of a classic match—Kapur’s team was in a heated contest against the Sujan Indian Tigers, with the thunder of hooves electrifying the field. But during a break in play, tragedy struck.

Witnesses say Kapur, still mounted on his horse, suddenly appeared distressed and cried out: “I’ve swallowed something,” before slumping forward and losing consciousness.

As Chairman of Sona Comstar, a global leader in automotive technology, Kapur was widely respected for his visionary leadership. Under his guidance, the company expanded its international footprint while championing innovation and sustainability.

“His passion, insight, and dedication shaped the identity and success of our company,” Sona Comstar shared in a heartfelt tribute.

With an estimated net worth of $1.2 billion, Kapur’s influence extended well beyond commerce. Friends and associates recall a man who valued people over prestige. “He didn’t distinguish between his grooms or his high net worth friends, when he had a party, everyone was invited and everyone was equal,” one close friend said.

He was also a good friend of Prince William. His warmth, generosity, and down-to-earth nature endeared him to all.

Born into a legacy of industrial innovation, Kapur was the son of Surinder Kapur, founder of Sona Comstar and a pioneer in India’s auto parts sector. After earning his education at The Doon School in India and the University of Buckingham in the UK, Sunjay took over the reins of the family business following his father's death in 2015.

His leadership was marked by bold expansion, cutting-edge technology, and a steadfast commitment to ethical business practices. Yet for all his corporate achievements, Kapur never lost sight of his roots—or his role in uplifting those around him.

Beyond his professional accolades, Kapur was deeply committed to his family. He is survived by his wife, Priya Sachdev, their six-year-old son, and two children from a previous marriage. Friends describe him as a hands-on father and a pillar of his community, employing and mentoring many through his business and personal networks.

“He will be greatly missed not only by his family and friends but the local community around his club as he employed so many people and made so many friends – he was fun, kind and generous,” a friend shared.

Adding a sorrowful layer to an already heartbreaking day, Kapur’s death coincided with one of the worst aviation disasters in recent memory: an Air India jet crashed near Ahmedabad, killing nearly all 242 people on board, as well as dozens more on the ground.

In a chilling twist of fate, Kapur’s final social media post expressed condolences for the crash victims: “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”

It is now believed that Kapur accidentally swallowed a bee, triggering a severe allergic reaction known as anaphylactic shock. According to the Mayo Clinic, this type of reaction can occur within minutes of exposure to an allergen like a bee sting or a peanut, and can be fatal if not treated immediately.

Mayo Clinic also stated the symptoms of anaphylactic shock:
  • Skin reactions
  • Constriction of airways
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • A weak and rapid pulse
  • Low blood pressure

Even in his final moments, Kapur’s empathy and concern for others shone through.

Sunjay Kapur’s story is more than that of a successful businessman or skilled sportsman—it’s a story of a life lived with purpose, compassion, and connection.
