Did you know that during WWII, bacon was used to make explosives? Homemakers were asked to give their bacon grease to the local butcher, who turned it in to the government because it was needed for the production of glycerin, which was then used to make bombs! What's even more interesting is that Disney was even enlisted to encourage Americans to donate cooking fat to the government. In a 1942 short cartoon, Minnie Mouse gave Pluto bacon fat and said, "A skillet of bacon grease is a mini-munitions factory," which allegedly was used to encourage people to participate in the war effort.
