Checks up to $25k from this settlement—see if you’re on the list

Heads up, mobile users! If you had this cell service back in 2021, you could be part of a major settlement.

One of the country’s largest phone providers is paying out hundreds of millions following a major data breach—and some people may soon see checks in the mail.

T-Mobile has been dealing with the fallout from a significant data breach that year, and now they're paying up–to the tune of $350 million.

Back in 2021, T-Mobile found itself in hot water when a massive data breach compromised the personal information of approximately 76 million individuals.

This wasn't just a minor hiccup; we're talking names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and driver's license or ID information–the kind of data that could lead to identity theft and a whole host of financial headaches.

And if that wasn't enough, T-Mobile faced another breach in 2022, affecting 37 million more. While the company has stated that no sensitive payment information was exposed in the 2023 incident, the 2021 breach remains a significant concern for those affected.

Despite T-Mobile's denial of any wrongdoing, they've opted to settle the lawsuit that followed the 2021 breach.

The settlement, which centers around a violation of a court order, means that eligible customers could see some compensation for their troubles.

Here's what you need to know:
  • The legal proceedings have wrapped up, and payments are expected to be distributed this month.
  • If you suffered financial harm due to the breach, you could be eligible for up to $25,000.
  • Even if you didn't document any losses or file a claim, you might still be entitled to up to $25.
  • California residents could see up to $100.
  • With the settlement being divided among so many people, the average payout might be closer to $4.50 per person before attorney fees.

Who's In and Who's Out?
If you're eligible, you should have already received a notification. However, not everyone is included in the settlement.

T-Mobile officers and directors, the presiding judge and their judicial staff, and anyone who opted out or pursued separate arbitration related to the breach are excluded.
