In response, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has posted two notices regarding the recall of Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter, both salted and unsalted varieties.
The issue at hand?
The packaging may lack the necessary “Contains Milk” allergy statement.
This oversight could lead to severe allergic reactions for those with milk allergies who are unaware of the butter's dairy content.
The recall specifically targets products distributed in Texas, encompassing 1,300 cases (46,800 pounds) of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and 900 cases (32,400 pounds) of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter.

The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall, which indicates that exposure to the product may lead to temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, but the likelihood of serious health issues is small.
If you have the recalled butter and do not have a milk allergy, the product is still safe to consume.
However, if you're allergic to milk, have a sensitivity, or simply prefer not to take any chances, you can return the butter to Costco for a full refund.
