Could this really happen? The truth behind a 76-year-old woman’s alleged pregnancy

In a true-to-life story that seems more fitting to the plot of a dramatic novel than real life, a viral video has taken social media by storm, leaving millions baffled over an unbelievable claim—can a 76-year-old woman really be pregnant?

A woman known as Miyah posted a now-viral video claiming her great-grandmother had received surprising news from a doctor—she was allegedly pregnant at 76. The footage, which has racked up over 40 million views in just a few days, shows the elderly woman in a hospital bed as a medical staff member delivers the shocking announcement.

“We got your urine back, and you are definitely pregnant,” the doctor states, as the great-grandmother appears stunned. “What?” she responds, seemingly in disbelief.

The doctor proceeds to explain that the woman is already 12 weeks along and asks if she has been intimate recently. “No, no!” the great-grandmother quickly replies, prompting chuckles from the medical staff.

According to Miyah, the baby is expected to arrive in July, and the family is already planning a baby shower. “I don’t know who’s going to raise it, so we’re going to find out,” she jokingly stated in the video.

While the story has captivated audiences, medical experts are highly skeptical. Dr. Unsworth, a renowned gynecologist, and women’s health expert, shared her doubts in an interview. “There is no physical way that a 76-year-old can fall pregnant naturally,” she explains. “Pregnancies reported in women in their ‘60s and ‘70s have all been through IVF—not natural conception.”

She also warned that a positive pregnancy test at this age could indicate a health concern, such as an abnormal tumor producing the hormone HCG, which is what pregnancy tests detect.

While a natural pregnancy at 76 is medically impossible, there have been cases of older women giving birth through assisted reproductive technology.

Erramatti Mangamma, at 74, holds the record for the world’s oldest mother after giving birth to twins in 2019 via IVF. Daljinder Kaur became a mother at 72 after undergoing two years of IVF treatments, while Rajo Devi Lohan gave birth for the first time at 70 through IVF in 2008.

Margaret Adenuga successfully carried twins to full term at 68 in 2020 after three failed IVF attempts. Meanwhile, Dawn Brooke, at 59, holds the Guinness World Record for the oldest woman to conceive naturally in 1997.

Social media users flooded the comments with disbelief and skepticism.“Wait?! At 76?? That’s possible?? That’s kinda scary.”

Another commenter added “Whatttt!!! You can still get pregnant almost close to 80?”.

Others were more intrigued by the family dynamic, “So if a grandma has kids… what do the grandkids call them?”

Could this be a miraculous exception to the rules of biology, or is there another explanation behind the great-grandmother's alleged pregnancy? Only time will tell, but

one thing is certain, this story has captured the imagination of people worldwide, reminding us all of the endless wonders and mysteries of life.
