Why this payout is happening

The money comes from a class-action settlement involving Drizly, an alcohol delivery platform that operated in New York until it was shut down in 2024.

The New York Attorney General’s office found that Drizly failed to ensure delivery workers received their tips.

Instead, those tips were allegedly given to liquor store owners—leaving workers without money they had rightfully earned.

Drizly, which was acquired by Uber in 2021, automatically added a 10% tip during checkout.

But behind the scenes, that money never made it to the drivers.

In response, Drizly agreed to pay $4 million in restitution, plus $200,000 to cover administrative costs.

More than 8,380 former delivery workers across 2,453 liquor stores in New York are expected to benefit.

How to claim your share

If you or someone you know worked as a delivery driver for a liquor store using the Drizly platform in New York, you may qualify.

To claim your portion of the settlement, all you need to do is complete a form by July 15, 2025. No proof of employment is required.

You can submit your claim at NYDrizlySettlement.com, where you’ll also find helpful FAQs and instructions.

Keep in mind—filing a false claim is illegal, and it can reduce the funds available for those who truly qualify.

If you’re unsure, review the site carefully before submitting.

What are class-action settlements?

Class-action lawsuits allow a group of people—known as a “class”—to collectively seek compensation from a company.

Often, one or a few individuals bring a case that affects a larger group.

Once the court certifies it as a class action, others with similar complaints may be eligible for compensation, even if they weren’t directly involved in the lawsuit.

Companies usually agree to a settlement without admitting wrongdoing, as a way to avoid a lengthy and expensive legal battle.

In return, class members receive compensation and typically waive the right to pursue additional legal action on the issue.

These lawsuits can cover many types of claims—from unfair wages to product safety problems.

Another settlement you may qualify for

This isn’t the only class-action case currently paying out.

If you own or lease certain Hyundai or Kia vehicles, you could be eligible for up to $350 from a separate $62.1 million settlement.

The lawsuit involves claims that some models were equipped with defective airbag control units that could fail during a crash.

Hyundai and Kia deny wrongdoing, but have agreed to resolve the claims through a settlement.

Eligible models include:

  • 2011–2019 Hyundai Sonata and Sonata Hybrid
  • 2018–2023 Hyundai Kona and 2022–2023 Hyundai Kona N
  • 2019–2021 Hyundai Veloster
  • 2010–2013 Kia Forte and Forte Koup
  • 2011–2020 Kia Optima and 2011–2016 Kia Optima Hybrid
  • 2011–2012, 2014 Kia Sedona

If you owned or leased one of these vehicles as of April 14, 2025, you may be entitled to compensation.

Why it’s worth checking

Class-action settlements like these are often easy to join—and they can help make up for lost wages, faulty products, or poor service.

In many cases, you don’t need to hire a lawyer or gather piles of paperwork.

All it takes is a few minutes and a bit of information. But deadlines are firm, so it’s important to act quickly.

If you think you or someone you know might be eligible, don’t wait too long.

And remember to always read the fine print carefully when submitting a claim!
