According to reports, Michael Pitt was arrested in Brooklyn, New York, on nine counts, including first-degree sexual abuse, criminal sexual acts, assault, attempted assault, and strangulation.
The allegations stem from an incident at Pitt’s Bushwick home, where his ex-girlfriend claims he sexually assaulted her and attacked her with both a cinderblock and a wooden plank.
She also alleges that Pitt strangled her during the altercation. In the indictment, it states that Pitt sexually assaulted her in April 2020, and forced oral sex and assaulted her using a 4x4-inch piece of lumber in August 2020.
It also says that Pitt attacked his girlfriend with the cinderblock twice in June 2021 and strangled her in August 2021.
Pitt, who was taken into custody on Friday, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 17.
A Statement from Pitt’s Legal Team
Pitt’s attorney has strongly denied the allegations, calling them “baseless” and “suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident.” Pitt pleaded not guilty to the charges and posted a $100,000 bail.
The lawyer emphasized that the two parties were in a “completely consensual and voluntary relationship” at the time and expressed confidence that the case would be dismissed.
“Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt—an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes—can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the indictment states four incidents between April 2020 and August 2021 occurred in Pitt’s home in Bushwick.
A Troubled Recent History
This isn’t the first time Pitt has faced legal trouble. In 2022, he was arrested and charged with assault and petty larceny after allegedly hitting a man and taking his phone.
Just two months later, Pitt was hospitalized after being accused of throwing objects at people from a building. At the time, authorities described him as “emotionally disturbed.”

Despite his off-screen troubles, Pitt has continued to work in Hollywood. He was most recently seen in the Netflix thriller Reptile and the boxing drama Day of the Fight.
