Do You Remember This Neighborhood Favorite?

It had green awnings, hearty plates, and the kind of cozy booths where you could linger for hours. The sign out front promised an “Irish-American” good time, and for many families, it was the spot for birthdays, after-work dinners, or a basket of those unforgettable Monte Cristo sandwiches. Do you remember this neighborhood favorite?

That’s right—this was Bennigan’s, the Irish-American grill and tavern chain that rose to popularity in the late 1970s and became a staple of casual dining through the ’80s and ’90s. Known for its friendly vibe, oversized portions, and pub-style comfort food, it was a go-to spot for countless family meals and celebrations. Did you ever tuck into their legendary Monte Cristo or meet friends here for happy hour? We’d love to hear your Bennigan’s memories in the comments!

Our local Bennigan's in Texarkana, Arkansas contributed to their demise. An employee there served alcohol to an underage minor who proceeded to die in a crash with a train on her way home. This cost Bennigan's well over 12 million dollars and helped to crush their popularity here.
