Does This Childhood Classic Ring A Bell?

Brightly colored, wrapped in cellophane, and lined up neatly on store counters across America—these sweet treats let you play grown-up. One puff (of powdered sugar!) and you were instantly the coolest kid on the block. Each flavor came with a bold name and eye-catching packaging to match. Does this childhood classic ring a bell?

If you guessed El Bubble candy cigars—you nailed it! These novelty bubble gums were a big hit in the ‘60s and ‘70s, with flavors like Gold Dragon (banana), El Bubble (apple), and Pink Owl (fruit). Kids loved the playful packaging and the fun of tearing one open, blowing out the sugary puff, and chomping into that bright, fruity gum—even if the flavor only lasted five minutes. Did you have a favorite color or memory tied to these? Tell us in the comments!

I definitely remember this product. Us 3 kids were not allowed to chew gum. I did sneak one at a friend’s house in the 60’s. Mine was the fruit flavored one. I imitated the way a friend of my parents smoke his real cigar. We must’ve looked really crazy playing with it and ‘smoking’ and chewing the gum. 🤭🥴
