The chief engineer of a steam train was introducing himself to his new apprentice.
"What's your name, kid?" the engineer asked gruffly.
"Charles, sir," the apprentice replied.
"Listen here, son!" the engineer said firmly. "I never call apprentices by their first name! What's your last name?"
"Darling, sir."
"All right then, Charlie. Let's start shovelling some coal..."
