Elon Musk criticizes Trump’s Immigration Bill, calling It a “disgusting abomination”

If you thought fireworks were reserved for Independence Day, think again.

This week, political tensions ignited as tech mogul Elon Musk took online to tear into President Trump’s highly anticipated domestic policy package—famously dubbed the "big, beautiful bill."

And Musk didn’t mince words.

In a rapid-fire series of posts, Musk labeled the bill a “disgusting abomination,” blasting it as “outrageous” and “pork-filled.”

For a man known for launching rockets, Musk’s political commentary was just as explosive.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” he wrote. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.”

“In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”

The bill is a massive legislative effort meant to advance key pillars of Trump’s domestic agenda.

It contains major spending provisions and policy changes—but critics, including Musk, say it's overloaded with unnecessary add-ons, or pork, benefiting special interest groups.

The House passed the bill before Memorial Day following intense lobbying by President Trump.

It’s now under review in the Senate, where adjustments are expected before it heads back to the House for final approval.

Musk’s comments quickly found support among some Republican lawmakers. Senator Rand Paul urged President Trump to “take some advice from Elon.”

Senators Ron Johnson and Mike Lee echoed similar concerns, calling for deep revisions before the bill moves forward.

But others pushed back. Senate Majority Leader John Thune acknowledged Musk’s right to speak out but hoped he would “come to a different conclusion” after reviewing the details.

Senator Jim Justice remained firmly aligned with the president, stating plainly “I stand with the president, and that’s all there is to it.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson reacted sharply to Musk’s criticisms, implying that his frustration may stem more from personal business concerns than policy disagreements.

“For him to come out and pan the whole bill is, to me, just very disappointing, very surprising, in light of the conversation I had with him yesterday,” Johnson said.

He suggested Musk’s disapproval may be related to cuts in electric vehicle tax credits—potentially damaging to Musk’s EV empire.

Musk is no stranger to politics. Until recently, he served as a “special government employee” in the Trump administration, a unique designation that limited his federal duties to 130 days per year and exempted him from certain ethics rules.

During his time at the Department of Government Efficiency (ironically nicknamed “DOGE”), Musk vowed to trim $1 trillion from the federal budget. While that ambitious target wasn’t met, Musk’s short tenure still left its mark.

According to a senior official, Musk departed “on good terms” and continues to advise the president in an unofficial capacity.

Beyond the political theatrics, the bill’s outcome could reshape domestic policy and impact programs used by millions of Americans. Musk’s high-profile intervention has amplified a deeper rift inside the Republican Party, pitting traditional fiscal conservatives against Trump-aligned loyalists.

Is Musk’s outrage purely ideological—or is there a financial angle at play? Speaker Johnson’s EV-related comments suggest the latter.

But Musk insists his concerns are about the bill’s long-term economic impact, not Tesla’s bottom line.

“I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful,” he quipped in a recent interview. “But I don’t know if it can be both.”
