FDA recalls popular snack due to hidden danger for allergy sufferers

Snack lovers, listen up! An urgent recall has been issued for a popular treat that could pose a serious health risk.

Are you sure your favorite snack is safe to eat?

On January 20, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed a recall of curry-flavored Curvee Puffs Corn Puff Snack bags.

The recall was initiated by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. on January 17, after the labeling error was discovered.

The affected products were last shipped out on January 10, and some have even made their way to Mexico.

This recall is particularly concerning because the packages in question failed to declare milk as an ingredient—a dangerous oversight for those with milk allergies.

For shoppers with milk allergies, ingesting products containing undeclared milk could lead to life-threatening allergic reactions.

Milk allergies trigger the immune system to react, sometimes resulting in anaphylaxis—a severe and potentially fatal response.

Symptoms of a mild allergic reaction to milk can include vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or swelling of the lips or tongue.

More severe reactions may involve shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and a drop in blood pressure.

The product code on the UPC for the recalled snack is 07441078512.

The FDA urges anyone who has purchased this product to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

If you believe you've bought a recalled product, look for directions on how to receive a refund, which is typically available from the store where it was purchased.

If you've had the recalled snack in your home, it's important to take steps to prevent cross-contamination.

The FDA recommends cleaning any surfaces the product may have touched and sanitizing utensils that have come into contact with the food using a solution of one tablespoon of chlorine to one gallon of hot water.

After sanitizing, dry the utensils with a clean cloth or unused paper towel. Additionally, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after handling the recalled product.

As of the time of the announcement, no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported as a result of consuming the recalled Curvee Puffs Corn Puff Snack.

However, vigilance is crucial.

If you experience an allergic reaction, contact a medical professional immediately. The FDA also encourages customers to report any related events or complaints on its website.

It's worth noting that the Shirakiku brand Corn Puffs were not the only products recalled this month for undeclared milk.

The FDA also issued recalls for multiple Monkey Spit-brand barbecue sauces, Monkfish liver, Pearl Milling Company's Pancake and Waffle Mix, and two varieties of NuGo-brand nutrition bars—all due to undeclared milk, soy, or wheat.

Remember, your health and safety are paramount. By staying informed and taking the necessary precautions, we can all enjoy our favorite snacks without fear.
