Fresh scents, hidden risk? This everyday essential may pose a safety concern

Attention, savvy shoppers and health-conscious households!

A popular household product—trusted for keeping everyday essentials in top shape—has just been recalled. Over 16,000 units have been pulled from online shelves due to a potential health concern, with officials urging caution.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the announcement as a precautionary move to protect consumers from possible bacterial contamination.

A staple in many households for keeping delicates pristine, Woolite, has issued an urgent recall that may affect your washing routine.

The brand, known for its gentle cleaning power, has recalled over 16,000 bottles of its delicate laundry detergent from virtual shelves due to a potential health hazard.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the affected Woolite products might contain bacteria from the Pseudomonas genus.

These organisms are commonly found in the environment, particularly in soil and water. While they play a role in ecological balance, certain strains can pose a threat to human health.

The CPSC has highlighted that, “People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to this bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment.”

Infections can be serious and may require prompt medical attention. The bacteria can infiltrate the body through various entry points, such as the eyes or breaks in the skin.

However, it's important to note that people with healthy immune systems are generally not at risk from these environmental bacteria.

The recall specifically targets 50-fluid-ounce bottles of Woolite Delicates detergent.

If you've purchased this product from Amazon, it's crucial to check the lot codes, which are S24364, S24365, and S24366.

These codes are printed at the top of the back of the bottle. The affected bottles have the SKU number 62338-72724 and feature a white container with a light pink label and cap.

These bottles were sold on Amazon in January 2025, with prices ranging between $14 and $17. If you have one of these bottles in your laundry room, it's time to take action.

The CPSC's guidance is clear: stop using the recalled detergent immediately. To claim a full refund, Reckitt Benckiser LLC, the parent company of Woolite, has outlined a simple process:

1. Write your name and the word “Recalled” on the back of the bottle using a permanent marker.
2. Take a photograph of the bottle, ensuring the UPC and lot code are visible.
3. Email the photo to [email protected].

Once you've secured your refund, dispose of the product safely by sealing the bottle and discarding it in the trash. The CPSC advises against emptying the detergent or recycling the bottle to prevent further contamination.
