From TV fame to fresh loaves: Patrick Duffy’s surprising new chapter

If you grew up watching Dallas, the name Patrick Duffy probably brings to mind cowboy hats, drama, and one of television’s most recognizable faces.

But today, the man who once played Bobby Ewing is finding joy in something far simpler—and perhaps even more nourishing.

Now 76, Duffy has traded Hollywood scripts for sourdough starters, stepping into a role that’s caught fans by surprise: baker, entrepreneur, and advocate for food security.

Duffy is now the proud co-founder and face of Duffy’s Dough, a baking company he runs alongside his partner, actress Linda Purl (known for Happy Days).

The business sells fresh loaves in grocery stores—including Kroger—and offers dehydrated sourdough starter kits for at-home bakers.

But this isn’t a celebrity brand in name only. Duffy has been spotted greeting customers, offering samples, and sharing his passion for baking in person.

A recent video captured the couple’s excitement as their products hit supermarket shelves.

“From our garage to this,” they wrote in the caption, expressing their gratitude—and announcing that 100% of profits will go toward fighting food insecurity.

Finding love—and purpose—later in life

After losing his wife Carolyn in 2017, Duffy never expected to find love again.

But during the pandemic, he reconnected with Linda Purl through Zoom chats that quickly blossomed into something more.

He later told People magazine: “I never thought I’d feel this way again.”

Their relationship has since become the heart of this next phase—one rooted in partnership, joy, and a shared mission to give back.

It’s a comforting, hands-on activity—one that became especially popular during lockdowns and remains a meaningful hobby for many.

With step-by-step instructions and a nod of encouragement from Patrick himself, the kits offer more than just bread—they offer a chance to try something new and share something warm with others.

Reinvention with heart

Patrick Duffy’s transition from actor to baker is more than a career change—it’s a reflection of resilience, generosity, and creativity.

“From high school on I wanted to act,” he once said, “but now, I feel just as fulfilled doing this.”

His journey shows that reinvention can happen at any age, and that giving back doesn’t require a stage—just a little flour and a lot of heart.

Bread, as Duffy describes it, is about comfort, community, and connection. In launching Duffy’s Dough, he’s embracing those values—offering nourishment in more ways than one.

With every loaf sold, the company helps support food security programs, aiming to make a difference “one slice at a time.”
