Hey, GrayViners,

I hope your week brought more smiles than stress. It got me thinking back to those moments when a brand-new gadget first found its way into the house.

Was it the microwave that cut cooking time, the washing machine that took the load off (literally!), or maybe the color TV that made family nights unforgettable?

Which household gadget made life easier for your family when it first arrived?

Microwave!

For me it was going from
a handfed clothes wringer washer to an automatic washer. We use to fill the washer with a hose, wash the clothes, wring the clothes out, dump the washer, fill the washer with rinse water, rinse them and wring them out again. We hung out clothes outside in the summer and in the house when it was wet. This was only 60 yrs ago.

For me it was defintely the TV. After years as a kid making up our own stories of adventure, now they came to life through my personal favorites, Cowboy Movies.

I grew up in Arlington Va. And my parents got a small window unit AC in 63, my dad got central air in 68!!!! Loving life after that.

Electric can opener that also had ice crusher

Clock radio. Loved being jolted out of sleep by a blast of 60’s Motown!

We lived in 2 apartments before we bought our first home. We were so ready to buy a clothes washer and dryer! That was heavenly to not have to lug the laundry basket up and down stairs with the laundry soap, etc. That was in 1974 and we haven’t looked back to our time without those great machines!

Positively a microwave. I don't know how we managed without one.
