GM recalls over 132,000 pickups! Is your truck at risk?

Pickup trucks are a symbol of strength, but what if yours has a hidden flaw? GM has expanded a recall affecting over 132,000 trucks, and the risk could be greater than you think.

If you own one, here’s what you need to know to stay safe.

The recall specifically targets the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 models equipped with manual gates and power lock and release features.

The problem lies in the tailgate release switches, which are vulnerable to short-circuiting due to water intrusion.

This can cause the tailgates to open without warning while the trucks are parked, potentially leading to cargo spilling onto the road—posing a serious risk to other drivers and pedestrians.

Initially, in February, GM had recalled 323,000 heavy-duty pickups for the same issue.

However, after uncovering 237 field reports of tailgates opening unexpectedly, the company decided to expand the recall to include additional trucks.

If you're an owner of one of these GM pickups, it's crucial to take immediate action.

GM advises all affected truck owners to ensure their tailgate is securely closed and latched before driving.

Until the repair is made, this simple check could prevent accidents and keep your cargo safe.

To address the issue, GM dealers will replace the exterior touch pad switch assemblies with new, more water-resistant versions.

This fix is designed to prevent future malfunctions and give truck owners peace of mind.

Starting on January 13, GM will begin sending out notification letters to owners of the affected pickups.

If you haven't received a letter but suspect your truck might be part of the recall, it's important to contact your local dealer or GM directly to verify your vehicle's status.

In a related story, GM also previously recalled 462,000 vehicles due to a potentially dangerous tire issue.
