Holding It In
An elderly woman was admitted to the hospital for a short stay, and her family hoped she’d get the rest and care she needed. The next morning, the nurses helped her wash up, brought her a hearty breakfast, and wheeled her to a sunny spot by the window. Everything seemed peaceful—until she started slowly leaning to one side in her chair. Two nurses rushed over to gently straighten her up. A few minutes later, she leaned the other way, and again, the nurses were right there to help. This went on for most of the morning.
When her family came to visit, they asked, “So, how’s everything? Are they treating you well?”
She nodded and said, “Oh, they’re very nice… but they won’t let me fart.”
