Is Your Car at Risk? Discover the Major Malfunction That Triggered Two Massive Ford Recalls

For many Americans over 60, a reliable vehicle is more than just a means of transportation—it's a lifeline to independence, adventure, and connection. That's why the recent news from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding a significant recall of Ford Maverick pickup trucks has raised concerns among drivers who prioritize safety and dependability in their vehicles.

Ford, a brand synonymous with robust trucks and a long-standing history in the automotive industry, has issued a recall for an estimated 144,516 of its 2022-2024 Ford Maverick vehicles equipped with Connected Touch Radio (CTR). The recall was prompted by a malfunction in the rearview camera system, which may freeze when the vehicle is in reverse. This glitch poses a substantial safety risk, as it can provide a false representation of the vehicle's position relative to its surroundings, potentially leading to accidents.

The Ford Maverick, a popular choice among consumers for its compact design, fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain, and affordability—with prices starting around $25,500—has been a top seller in the market. Its ability to seat five and haul up to 1,500 pounds of payload in its rear bed makes it a versatile option for both work and leisure.

In addition to the Maverick, Ford has also announced a recall of 16,543 2022 F-150 vehicles due to an issue where the “parking lights may flicker when the headlights are activated”. This defect could lead to visibility problems on the road, further increasing the risk of a crash. The NHTSA has noted that the parking lights on these vehicles fail to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, which covers “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

To address these issues, Ford has instructed owners of the affected Maverick and F-150 models to take their vehicles to their nearest Ford or Lincoln dealer for a CTR software update or LED Driver module replacement. These services will be provided at no charge to the vehicle owners, and recall letters are expected to be delivered by September 30 for the Maverick and mailed out on October 7 for the F-150.
