Is your city next? Beloved discount retailer expands fast after acquiring 45 Joann stores—see where 60 new locations are opening!

If you’re a fan of hunting for bargains, get ready to celebrate—because one of America’s favorite discount retailers is on a roll, and your neighborhood could be next on their map!

A beloved off-price chain known for its treasure trove of deals on clothing, home goods, and more is in the midst of a major expansion.

After scooping up 45 former Joann store locations, the company is now opening 60 brand-new stores across 26 states and Puerto Rico.

That’s right—more aisles to browse, more deals to score, and more reasons to get out and shop!

The retail landscape has been shifting rapidly, especially in the wake of the pandemic. While some big names have struggled to keep their doors open, Burlington has seized the moment, turning retail challenges into opportunities.

With Joann Fabrics and Crafts closing hundreds of stores and other chains like Big Lots, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Party City also shuttering locations, Burlington has been quick to snap up prime real estate.

According to analysts at Evercore, there’s little new shopping center growth planned in the US for the foreseeable future.

That means retailers with big ambitions—like Burlington—are getting creative, moving into spaces left behind by brands that couldn’t weather the storm.

It’s a win-win: Burlington gets great locations, and communities get to keep their shopping centers vibrant and bustling.

In 2024 alone, Burlington opened 101 net new stores and relocated 31 older, oversized locations to more efficient spaces.

Their strategy is clearly paying off: in the fourth quarter of 2024, Burlington’s net sales jumped 4.8% year-over-year to nearly $3.3 billion, and net income soared 14.6% to $260.8 million.

With more than 1,100 stores already dotting the US map, Burlington is showing no signs of slowing down.

Burlington’s expansion isn’t just about filling empty storefronts—it’s about meeting the needs of today’s shoppers.

As more Americans look for ways to stretch their dollars, off-price retailers like Burlington are thriving.

The company’s “treasure hunt” shopping experience—where you never know what deals you’ll find—keeps customers coming back for more.

And it’s not just about clothes. Burlington’s shelves are stocked with everything from home décor and kitchen gadgets to beauty products and baby gear.

With inflation still pinching many household budgets, these new stores are arriving at just the right time.

The last few years have been tough for many retailers. Joann Fabrics and Crafts, for example, announced it would close all 800 stores after filing for bankruptcy twice in a single year.

Other brands like Hooters, Quiksilver, Billabong, Volcom, Forever 21, and Macy’s have also faced closures, layoffs, or major restructuring.

But as the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens. Burlington’s aggressive growth strategy is proof that there’s still plenty of life—and opportunity—in American retail.

For shoppers, it means more choices, more savings, and more reasons to get out and explore.
