Is your cooler safe? Discover the chilling reason this popular brand recalled over a million coolers

As we gear up for the season of picnics, beach outings, and family barbecues, a cooler is often our trusted companion to keep drinks chilled and food fresh.

However, a recent announcement from Igloo has sent a chill down the spine of consumers nationwide. The trusted cooler brand has issued a massive recall of over a million coolers due to a serious safety hazard.

If you're the proud owner of an Igloo cooler, it's time to pay attention—your next grab for a cold one could be more dangerous than you think.

Igloo has voluntarily recalled approximately 1.06 million of its 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, which were sold at prices ranging from $80 to $140.

The reason? These coolers have been linked to “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” according to the recall alert.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received 12 reports of injuries related to the coolers, including:
  • Fingertip amputations
  • Bone fractures
  • Lacerations
These injuries occurred when consumers were using the cooler's handle, which can unexpectedly snap off or cause fingers to get caught, leading to severe harm.

To determine the manufacture date of your Igloo cooler, you'll need to take a look at the bottom of the cooler. There, you'll find a circle imprinted with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and two digits in the center indicating the last two numbers of the year it was made.

From January 2019 through January 2025, the recalled coolers were sold at major retailers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including:

  • Costco
  • Target
  • Academy
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods
  • Amazon.com
  • Other stores nationwide
