Is your lawn mower putting you at risk? Nearly 40,000 mowers are being recalled

A massive recall is shaking up backyard safety across the nation. Find out why thousands of mowers are being pulled from lawns now.

Kawasaki Motors USA, the powerhouse behind the engines in many John Deere mowers, has issued a recall for 39,000 of these green machines.

The reason?

A potential fire and burn hazard that's already caused five reported incidents of fire and 26 reports of melting or smoking.

While no injuries have been reported, the risk is significant enough to warrant immediate attention.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has identified the voltage regulator inside the mower's engine as the source of the problem.

This component can fail, whether the mower is cutting through your lawn or simply sitting in storage.

If it does, the engine would overheat, transforming your trusty grass-cutter into a dangerous fire starter.

The recall specifically targets John Deere ZTrak™ Zero Turn Mowers with Kawasaki Engines.

If you own a John Deere mower, it's crucial to check if your model is on the list. The affected models are:
  • Z720E
  • Z730M
  • Z740R
  • Z760R
Each model has a range of serial numbers included in the recall. You can find these numbers on the frame of your mower.

Here's a quick reference to see if your mower falls within the affected serial number ranges:

These mowers were sold at authorized John Deere dealers nationwide from October 2018 through September 2024, with prices ranging from $8,000 to $11,500.
