Is your meat safe? The USDA just recalled 32,000 pounds nationwide

If you’ve recently stocked up on chorizo, pork chops, or ribs for your next family cookout, it’s time to check your fridge and freezer.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has just sounded the alarm on a major nationwide recall—over 32,000 pounds of meat products are being pulled from shelves due to serious safety concerns.

Families everywhere are now being urged to check what’s inside their kitchens before it’s too late.

The recall centers on products from Sabrositos Hondurenos, LLC, a company whose meat products were found to be sporting a fake USDA inspection mark.

According to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), these meats were never actually inspected by federal authorities.

That’s a big deal—federal inspection is the gold standard for ensuring our food is free from harmful bacteria, undeclared allergens, and other nasty surprises.

The products in question were shipped to retailers and restaurants all across the country, so this isn’t just a local issue.

Here’s the full list of recalled items, all sold in 14-ounce vacuum-sealed packages under the OLANCHO and SABROCITOS HONDUREÑOS brands:
  • Homestyle chorizo (Chorizo Suelto Olanchano)
  • Smoked pork chops (Chuleta Ahumada Olanchana)
  • Smoked chorizo (Chorizo Ahumado Olanchano)
  • Cased homestyle chorizo (Chorizo Olanchano Criollo)
  • Smoked BBQ spicy chorizo (Chorizo Parrillero)
  • Smoked ribs (Costilla Ahumada Olanchana)
All of these products bear the establishment number Est. 1785—but here’s the kicker: that number doesn’t even exist in the USDA’s system. If you spot this on your packaging, it’s time to take action.

If you find any of the recalled meats in your kitchen, here’s your game plan:
  1. Do NOT eat it. Even if it looks and smells fine, the risks aren’t worth it.
  2. Dispose of it safely. Throw it away in a sealed bag, or return it to the store where you bought it for a refund.
  3. Restaurants and retailers: If you run a food business, pull these products from your shelves and dispose of them immediately.
If you have questions or concerns, you can reach out directly to Diego Funez Garrido, the owner of Sabrositos Hondurenos, LLC, at 908-274-4206.
