Jeep owners, beware: 63,000 vehicles are being urgently recalled

Jeep owners, it's time to pay attention—something important is happening. Stellantis has issued a recall that affects thousands of vehicles.

Could this issue put your safety at risk?

Stellantis, the automotive giant behind the iconic Jeep brand, has issued a recall that affects more than 63,000 Jeep Cherokees.

The issue at hand stems from a defectively seated input shaft ring.

This seemingly small component plays a pivotal role in your vehicle's power transfer unit (PTU). When it fails, the consequences can be severe: the PTU may become damaged, disengaging the transmission and differential.

This can result in a sudden and unexpected loss of drive power and/or the loss of the park function.

Imagine cruising down the highway or navigating a steep incline when your vehicle suddenly loses power.

Or picture your parked Cherokee beginning to roll away without warning.

These scenarios are not only frightening but can significantly increase the risk of a crash or injury.

While the recall documents issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlight that there may not always be a warning before a loss of motive power, there are some signs that drivers can be on the lookout for.

These include a “Service 4WD” message, unusual noises, vibrations, or a change in the drive quality of your vehicle. If you experience any of these symptoms, it's crucial to take action immediately.

The recall specifically targets certain 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokee models.

If you own one of these vehicles, it's essential to be proactive.

Stellantis has announced that notification letters will be mailed to owners starting on February 13. However, you don't have to wait to receive a letter to take action.

You can reach out to Chrysler FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information, referencing recall number 01C.

Additionally, the NHTSA is available to assist with any concerns or questions. You can contact their Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit their website at nhtsa.gov, referencing recall number 25V011000.

This latest recall is not an isolated incident for Jeep vehicles. In 2024 alone, there have been several recalls affecting various models.

From ball joint issues that could lead to a loss of control to investigations into complaints of Jeep Wagoneer SUVs losing power and shifting into park unexpectedly, the brand has faced numerous safety challenges.

There have even been concerns raised about the potential for engines in some Jeep SUVs and pickup trucks to catch fire, even when the ignition is turned off.

We encourage all Jeep Cherokee owners to take this recall seriously and to act swiftly to ensure their vehicles are safe and roadworthy.

Check your VIN, stay informed, and don't hesitate to reach out to your dealer or the manufacturer for assistance.
