KFC’s top-secret recipe revealed? The claim comes from Sanders’ great-great-great nephew

Sometimes the things people take for granted become the mysteries that everyone wants to solve. A simple flavor, wrapped in nostalgia and ritual, can inspire endless theories and debates across generations.

When something is kept under lock and key for decades, it only grows more tempting to those on the outside.

And now, one viral video has reignited the curiosity around one of fast food’s most guarded secrets.

An online creator, who goes by the handle @realcolonelsanders, claims to be Colonel Sanders’ great-great-great-nephew and says he has leaked the “real” KFC secret recipe.

His two-minute video has drawn over 8 million views, with fans studying every measurement and ingredient he listed.

In his clip, he rattled off a set of 11 herbs and spices along with binders, including sage, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, and even MSG as part of the final mix.

He declared that the previously leaked 2016 recipe was “proven fake” and dismissed it in blunt terms as “BS.”

That 2016 recipe came from Joe Ledington, Colonel Sanders’ actual nephew, who once claimed it had been found scrawled on the back of his aunt Claudia’s will.

At the time, he said, “That is the original 11 herbs and spices that were supposed to be so secretive.”

His list included paprika, garlic salt, dried mustard, and white pepper, among others. Later, however, Ledington backtracked, admitting uncertainty with the words, “It could be; I don’t know for sure.”

His 11 herbs and spices recipe is as follows:
  • 1 tbsp and 1/4 tsp sage
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 pinches red/cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp white pepper
  • 1 and 1/2 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp cardamon

According to the viral TikToker, the key is adding salt and MSG only after the herbs and spices are mixed into flour, then blending everything with cake flour.

His final tip was to fry the chicken using lard or vegetable oil to replicate the taste. “Use lard or vegetable oil.”

Add the salt and MSG to the flour after the 11 herbs and spices are mixed with the flour,” he instructed viewers.

The internet reaction has been just as lively as the supposed revelation itself. “Got the KFC recipe before GTA 6,” one commenter joked.

Another said, “I knew there was cinnamon and cardamon!” while someone else asked, “Can we get the biscuits and mashed potato too?”

Fans are split between excitement, skepticism, and curiosity, with many wondering if either recipe is truly authentic or just another chapter in a long tradition of speculation.
