Kroger issues recall on 6 frozen foods in 17 States—check your freezer now!

If you’ve been stocking up on quick meals or easy snacks from a major grocery chain, you may want to check your freezer right away.

A sweeping recall has been issued, covering six frozen food favorites sold under well-known names.

The reason is alarming—reports of sharp wooden fragments being found inside these ready-to-eat products.

For families who rely on fast meals, especially grandparents and caregivers, this is the kind of safety issue that can’t be ignored.

What’s Been Recalled

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a Class I recall—its most serious level—after several injury complaints linked to wood fragments in frozen meat products.

The affected items are all manufactured by Hillshire Brands, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, and include:
  • State Fair Beef Corn Dogs (12-count, 32 oz)
  • State Fair Corn Dogs (16-count, 42.72 oz)
  • State Fair Fiesta Cheese Jalapeño Corn Dogs (4 oz)
  • State Fair Corn Dogs (6-count, 16 oz)
  • Jimmy Dean Sausage Pancake Stick (12-count, 12/2.5 oz)
  • Jimmy Dean Blueberry Pancake Sausage on a Stick (12-count, 12/2.5 oz)
The risk of biting into a piece of wood is no small matter—especially for children, older adults, or anyone with dental work or swallowing difficulties.

Where Were These Products Sold?

The recall stretches across a wide swath of the country, impacting Kroger and its family of stores, including:
  • Dillons
  • Baker’s
  • Gerbes
  • King Soopers
  • City Market
  • Fry’s
  • Fred Meyer
  • Ralphs
  • QFC
  • Smith’s
  • Food 4 Less
  • Foods Co.
If you shop at any of these stores in the Midwest, South, or parts of the Mid-Atlantic, your freezer could be affected.

In total, about 58 million pounds of food products manufactured between March 17 and September 26, 2025, are included in the recall.

Some of these products were also distributed to schools and Department of Defense facilities.

However, the USDA has clarified that none of the recalled items were part of the National School Lunch Program.

If you’re involved in school meal planning or community food programs, it’s still wise to double-check your inventory.
