Living Without a Heart

The human body is capable of some truly mind-blowing things, especially with a little help from modern medicine.

Alright, folks, get ready for one of the wildest medical stories out there. Imagine living for 555 days—that’s over a year and a half—without a human heart. Sounds like sci-fi, right? Well, it actually happened to a guy named Stan Larkin.

Back in November 2014, doctors removed his heart (yes, completely), and instead of being stuck in a hospital bed, he carried around a backpack-sized device that kept him alive while he waited for a transplant. Talk about next-level tech!

And here’s the kicker—he didn’t just sit around waiting. He was out and about, playing basketball, living life, all without an actual heart inside his chest. Finally, after 555 days, he got a real heart transplant, and today, he’s doing great.

What do you think—could you handle life without a heart (technically speaking)?
