Longest Case of Hiccups
Charles Osborne’s uncontrollable hiccups began in 1922 after a bizarre work accident. While attempting to weigh a 350-pound hog on a farm in Iowa, he fell, which doctors believed caused a minor brain injury that triggered the condition. This baffling case left medical experts scratching their heads for decades. Remarkably, Charles managed to live a full and fulfilling life, even raising a family, before the hiccups finally stopped in 1990—just one year before his passing.
Charles holds the record for the longest case of hiccups, which lasted an astonishing 68 years! On average, he hiccuped 20 times per minute—a staggering total of approximately 430 million hiccups in his lifetime. Have you ever heard of such an unusual medical story?
