Major furniture chain is closing stores—here’s how to grab up to 50% off

If you’ve been thinking about sprucing up your living room, upgrading your patio setup, or grabbing a cozy new chair, this could be the perfect moment.

The home décor retailer At Home has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is closing 26 of its stores across the country.

As part of the wind-down, shoppers can find deep in-store discounts—up to 50% off—on everything from furniture to rugs and window treatments.

But the sales won’t last long.

The closures are scheduled to wrap up by September 30, and some locations are already seeing crowds.

Why the rush to shop now?

Furniture deals this steep don’t come around often.

At Home’s liquidation sales are offering savings of 30 to 50% on a wide range of items—like 40% off furniture, 50% off window treatments, and 40% off area rugs.

The discounts are only available in person, and only at the locations marked for closure.

As of July 2, the company has stopped accepting gift cards and returns, so all sales are final.

Once items are gone, they’re gone.

These markdowns are only available in-store and limited to the affected locations.

It’s worth calling ahead or checking the At Home website for inventory before heading out.

Shoppers respond with enthusiasm—and patience

Many fans of At Home are already hitting the stores and sharing their finds on social media.

“Thank you!! I love this store… even more with a discount!!” wrote one shopper.

Others are taking a more patient approach, waiting for deeper discounts.

“You’ll see me at 90%,” one person joked, while another said, “I’ll put my shoes on when it’s 70% off.”

The dynamic is familiar: do you wait and risk missing out, or grab a deal while it's still there?

What’s behind the store closures?

While the company hasn’t laid out all the reasons publicly, bankruptcy filings point to high operating costs and challenges facing traditional retailers.

These 26 locations were considered underperforming.

At Home previously closed six stores and is now working with financial stakeholders to restructure.

A spokesperson told Bloomberg they’ve entered forbearance agreements and are seeking long-term solutions—not a full shutdown.

Tips for smart shopping

If you’re considering making a trip, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Check store status. Make sure your local At Home is on the closure list before heading out.
  2. Shop early. The most popular items tend to sell out fast.
  3. Inspect before buying. All sales are final, so check items carefully.
  4. Bring help. Some furniture pieces may require assistance or a vehicle large enough to transport them.

A bigger trend in retail

At Home’s struggles reflect a larger shift in how Americans shop.

More people are turning to online retailers, while brick-and-mortar stores are grappling with rising costs and changing customer habits.

For those who still enjoy browsing in person and testing out a chair before buying, closures like these can feel like the end of an era.

But for now, they also offer a rare opportunity to save big.
