Missed Opportunity
After retiring, Harold made his way to the Social Security office to apply for his benefits. When the clerk asked for his driver’s license to verify his age, Harold reached into his pockets—only to realize he’d left his wallet at home.
He apologized and explained he’d have to return another time, but the woman behind the desk smiled and said, “Why don’t you just unbutton your shirt?”
A little confused, Harold obliged, revealing a patch of proud, silver chest hair.
“That’s proof enough for me,” she said cheerfully, and processed his application right then and there.
When Harold got home and told his wife the story, she barely looked up from her crossword.
“Well,” she said, “if you’d dropped your pants, they might’ve signed you up for disability, too.”
